Inhibiting the SNARE Complex

Facial wrinkles are often caused by repetitive muscle contractions. Neurotransmitters like acetylcholine must be released for muscles to contract. This release requires the formation of a protein structure called the SNARE complex.

SNAP-8 is an octapeptide that mimics part of the SNARE complex. By destabilizing this complex, it prevents the vesicle from releasing acetylcholine. This leads to a relaxation of facial muscles—similar to Botox, but milder and reversible—smoothing out fine lines and expression wrinkles.
