The Metabolic Switch

AICAR (5-Aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide ribonucleotide) is an analog of AMP. When introduced to the body, it tricks cells into thinking energy levels are low. This activates AMPK (AMP-activated protein kinase), the master metabolic regulator usually triggered by intense exercise.

Activation of AMPK shifts the body’s metabolism to burn fat for fuel and stimulates the creation of new mitochondria. In mouse studies, sedentary mice treated with AICAR could run 44% further than untreated controls, demonstrating significant endurance benefits without training.
